Back With SciAll!

How we doin’, dumplings?

I just wanted to apologize to everyone for the unannounced post hiatus and take this opportunity to give some updates on what I’ve been up to. My break pretty much came down to bad planning, but in my defense, it’s been a very busy couple of weeks for me thanks to the branding relaunch of SciAll.org this past Monday, and combined with Valentine’s Day prep (which is deadly serious), I just didn’t make the time to write. Readers might remember SciAll from my internship with them way back in Fall of 2021, during which I pitched and edited science education videos wherein real scientists demystify what a career in academia looks like. That fall, I edited three videos total (two of which are currently up on youtube and in my portfolio), but unfortunately, my Cabinet of Curiosities series never made it much further than that. Since last year, however, I’ve been doing contract work editing shorts for SciAll that I finally get to share with you all—in weekly releases, of course, so make sure you chew the first one really well before the next one comes out. There are fifteen or sixteen still locked and loaded, covering topics from the female experience in STEM, to Scientists’s fictional science heroes, to Scientists’s real-life science heroes, and there are lots more on the way. As a refresher, though, I had the opportunity to convert my old videos into short-form versions, which is where these shorts begin:

In principal, I have a lot of disdain for the screen-hogging, iPad-kid, goldfish-attention-span medium of vertical videos, but it has actually done wonders for how concisely I tell stories, though you’ve probably noticed I’ve got a lot of work still ahead in that department. There’s an undeniable dopamine rush to having made so many of these, too—it’s nice to have a generous helping of videos under my belt, for sure. These are dropping biweekly through May, so I won’t be posting every single short here on my blog—more likely, I’ll do a shoutout to each series of shorts when they’ve all come out. For more frequent updates, be sure to subscribe to SciAll’s youtube and follow them on Instagram and Tiktok (pick your poison). It has been a blast to work with them again, and I hope you enjoy seeing these as much as I enjoyed making them.

As for blogging, not to worry: I’m back on the wagon, and I ought to be, considering there’s a new album from The Smile, Chelsea Wolfe, and now IDLES all at once? Give me a minute to recover, you guys, I can’t process three masterpieces at once. I’ve shuffled around the schedule, but there’s an already-in-progress SOTW coming next Friday, followed by my Fargo Season 5 review, as promised—and just in time to catch that Season 5 finale buzz, right? You guys are still talking about Fargo… right…? Hello?
